On Sunday, March 27, we celebrated the Moonee Valley Neighborhood Spirit Awards, as part of our Neighbors Day Community Picnic celebrations at Queens Park, Moonee Ponds.
We are delighted to announce our 2022 Moonee Valley Citizen of the Year Award winner as Nada Kalam.
Nada has worked tirelessly to support the community, having actively contributed to social justice causes from a young age. In addition to coordinating blood drives and clothing drives, Nada has held volunteer positions with Engineers Without Borders (EWB), Welcome Refugee Group, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Foundation for Young Australians, Young Engineers Australia, Kids off the Kerb and the Islamic Council of Victoria.
Nada is known to be driven by innovation, social development, sustainability and creating a meaningful positive impact on communities. Nada founded the Muslim Professionals Associating to support migrant communities with access to fair employment opportunities and SistaHub – an organization currently focused on improving health information related to COVID-19 for migrant women and access to culturally appropriate vaccination centers.
Currently completing a degree in sustainability, Nada hopes to bring these learnings to her local community through information sharing, community gardens and climate change action.
