Chandigarh | 3 charged with identity theft in firefighter recruitment test


Three people have been arrested after they were caught posing as candidates during the physical test for firefighter positions, conducted at Police Lines, Sector 26, Chandigarh on Saturday.

Chandigarh Municipality in its statement to UT Police said that during verification it was found that the faces of candidates Aman, Vikram Singh and Anand – all from Haryana – did not match the photo available on the admission card. issued by Panjab University, Chandigarh. When asked to sign so that their signature could match the signature on the admission card, they refused.

After being questioned further, the people gave names that did not match those mentioned on the admission cards. The person who appeared as Vikram Singh claimed his real name was Vijay Kumar, a resident of Kaithal, the person who appeared as Aman claimed his real name was Vikas and he was a resident of Hisar and the person who appeared as Anand claimed that his real name was Vinit resident of Jhajjar, Haryana.

Taking note of the development, City Commissioner Anindita Mitra asked officers involved in the physical test to be extra vigilant.

“The verification process is ongoing and appropriate action will be taken,” said Palak Goel, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP, East).

A case under Sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal association) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed at Sector 26 police lines against the three defendants.
