DCPS will offer a five-day preschool

DAVIESS CO., Ky. (WFIE) – Daviess County Public Schools officials announce they will offer half-day preschool instruction five days a week at all 12 DCPS elementary schools beginning in August 2022.

They say the district recently conducted a survey and the community is overwhelmingly in favor of a five-day-a-week preschool.

Officials say every other Friday will be set aside for screenings, outreach and staff development, but otherwise DCPS will provide preschool services five days a week in the morning and afternoon.

Morning session information – Morning sessions run from 7:40 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a meal provided. Parents/guardians may drop off child at school between 7:00 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. DCPS will return children home or to a designated location for care on established transportation routes after departure at 11:00 a.m. ( or parents can pick up children from school at 11 a.m.).

Information on the afternoon session – Afternoon sessions run from 11am to 2.20pm with lunch provided. DCPS will pick up children from their homes or designated caregiver locations on established transportation routes at noon (or parents can provide transportation). Parents/guardians will pick up children from school at 2:20 p.m. exit time. There is no after school program option for preschool.

After submitting your application to enroll your child in the DCPS Preschool Program, parents/guardians will have the option to request a preference for morning or afternoon sessions. Officials say they cannot guarantee placement. Registration requests, eligibility information and session preference forms are available at www.dcps.org

DCPS preschool classes are taught by dedicated teachers who are certified in early childhood education. We provide preschool students with quality learning experiences reinforced with opportunities for social/emotional development. Children will also enjoy art, music, physical education, and media/library classes as part of their DCPS preschool experience.
