The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is committed to supporting Filipino inventors and innovators in the country.
DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña believes there are many local inventors and innovators to be discovered and rediscovered.
“We will continue to give importance to the role of our researchers and inventors by supporting their abilities to produce intellectual properties and commercialize their inventions to improve the lives of many Filipinos,” said de la Peña.
“A number of exceptional researchers and inventors have been produced by this country and have been a beacon of hope for a game changer,” he added.
The DOST chief made the statement on Tuesday August 11 at the launch of the Regional Invention and Exhibitions Competition (RICE) in region 4-B, a national activity carried out in different regions to recognize Filipino inventors.
RICE is one of the initiatives of DOST’s Institute for Technology Application and Promotion (TAPI), in collaboration with its regional offices, to showcase the ingenuity of Filipino inventors in developing technologies to strong impact.
According to de la Peña, technological innovations contribute to business development and market competitiveness in local and global contexts, as well as to economic growth and make people’s lives easier.
“This event signifies the importance of inventions and innovations to accelerate and support the economic and social development of our countries,” he said.
“The department is one with all of you along your journey in promoting a scientific community that pushes the boundaries to achieve a self-sufficient and self-sufficient Philippines,” he added.
