Lagos Government: We removed the judge who dissolved the marriage and snatched the plaintiff’s wife

The Lagos State government says it has sacked a customary court judge, Mr Ishola Razaki Adeyemi, who allegedly dissolved a marriage and snatched the wife of a plaintiff, Mr Olayemi Ayeni.

In a viral video, Ayeni was seen recounting how Adeyemi, who allegedly had an interest in his wife, dissolved their union and denied him access to his children.

According to Ayeni, when he protested against the development, Adeyemi had him arrested by the police and he was later transferred to Kirikiri Prison in Lagos State.

He said the problems started at home when his wife started disrespecting him after he invested N5million in his business.

According to the complainant, the woman left the house and rented an apartment near him.

He said she had asked for a divorce, which the magistrate granted and then impregnated his wife.

“I had a problem with my wife, she left home, she rented a flat very close to my house. I invested five million naira in her business to set up a school, Greatest Kiddies Foundation. So the business success caused a problem in the family, I could no longer control it.

“So after ten months, I took her to court, thinking I could resolve this case through an alternative dispute resolution process. The judge, Dr Ishola Azakiq Adeyeni, hastily dissolved my marriage and got this woman pregnant three months after the dissolution of the marriage.

“The woman she is carrying now nine months pregnant for this man. What really pained me was that in the judgment, this man denied me access to my children. That I can only see the kids at school once a week. The same children are now in his custody he took over the business I started for this woman he denied me access to my children he impregnated the woman now and he still wants to send me in prison.

“I don’t want my children to be in the care of the man, but rather allow my children to go and play in the Sambisa forest. I don’t want my children to live in a chaotic environment, that’s why I say, I want my children back.
If I don’t care, Lagos state social development can take care of the kids. I’m fine financially, I can take care of my children. I can board them, I want my children back. Dear Nigerians, please help me! the man said in a video, which sparked anger on social media.

But reacting in a statement on Monday, the executive secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Titilola Vivour Adeniyi, said the matter had been investigated by the Lagos State Court Services Commission.

Adeniyi said that although the case happened between 2014 and 2015, the video was posted by Ayeni’s friends in 2016.

“The attention of the State Government has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media in which a certain Mr. Olayemi Ayeni (the Complainant) alleged that a former member of the Customary Court, Mr. Ishola Razaki Adeyemi , had abused his office by engaging in unprofessional conduct in a customary court case involving the Complainant and his wife and proceeded to snatch his wife and children away from him.”

“The matter which occurred between 2014/2015 was investigated by the Lagos State Judicial Service Commission. The findings of the investigation subsequently led to the termination of the mandate of the member of the customary court.

“The viral video was discovered to have been posted by ‘Ogbongefriends’ sometime in 2016. Members of the public are advised that the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency attempted to contact Ogbongefriends on their various social media accounts , but unfortunately their accounts have not been active since 2018. All efforts to reach the Complainant have been unsuccessful.

“We are therefore using this medium to encourage anyone with useful information about the complainant to contact us via our social media handles – @dsvrt on twitter or @dsva on instagram or 0813-796-0048.”

It is unclear why the video started circulating again.
