A socio-cultural and political group, Greater Southern Borno, has praised President Muhammadu Buhari and Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume for instituting development programs and fighting poverty in the region.
A statement released by the organizer, Greater Southern Borno, Ibrahim Abubakar, said President Buhari has provided a unique opportunity aimed at tackling poverty in the region.
“We would first like to express our gratitude to the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for giving Nigerians and especially the people of South Borno this unique opportunity to fight poverty and set a new trend in capacity building and economic revolution,” Abubakar said of the Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Central Intervention Programs through NIRSAL.
He added, “To our most distinguished Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, words cannot express our appreciation and gratitude for these selfless efforts to secure this unique opportunity for his people,” Abubakar said, adding that the legislator has proved to be a leader in accomplishing campaign. promises he made to ensure excellent representation of his people.
“For the past hundred years, the Global South has been the epicenter of poverty. Every day, 426 children are at risk of dying in sub-Saharan Africa. Therefore, issues of social development and the fight against poverty must be taken seriously.
“In Nigeria, successive governments have put in place many social development programs, which look great on paper. However, these programs did not have a long-term impact.
“Many can blame successive governments for the failure of past and current social development programs. What analysts failed to study was the implementation process. There must be some constituted authority or political force at least to complement the government in implementing and deepening the impact of these programs,” the group said.
The group said the Boko Haram insurgency and the COVID-19 pandemic had negatively impacted the businesses and livelihoods of people in Borno and the country as a whole, saying Ndume chose to do the things differently to cushion the effects.
“After the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) introduced the N50 Billion Targeted Credit Facility (TCF) as a stimulus package to support households and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and also triggering an economic rebound, Ndume, initiated a group to come up with a training and awareness package to complement the government’s effort.
“Throughout the country this loan has been misused as a large portion of the people consider anything that comes from the government as free money which they have earned due to the hardships and hardships they are facing. money that should not be put to good use but should rather be spent on short term goals and nothing can be done about it.
“Ndume, in his efforts to ensure that his constituency is in line with the principles of sustainable development, especially as it has been plagued by poverty caused by insecurity, has ensured excellent representation of his people and has ensures that nearly 4000 people benefit from CBN-NIRSAL targeted credit COVID-19 facility for its constituents to support their households and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) etc. majority of which are educated youths who form the bulk of the population,” the group added.
The group said Ndume’s training was able to sensitize and educate recipients on the importance of the loan, suggest practical and productive businesses they can engage in, guide existing SME owners on how to grow and promote their existing business, adding that most grantees now know the importance of bookkeeping, registering business names and paying tax to link up with the intent of TCF funds
“Ndume receives feedback on challenges from grantees and a database to monitor and track grantee progress. Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume represents the breed of leaders the Third World needs to progress,” the group said, adding that the legislator has proven to be the bridge that connects the old and the new generation.
“He has indeed shown his willingness to work with young people and lead them to a bright future that is not far away,” the band said of Ndume.
