The Republic of Guinea opened the doors of the country’s pavilion at the heart of Expo 2020, joining a call for global investment in the West African nation, focusing on the development of its energy sectors, agro-industry and infrastructure.
Guinea, known as the ‘Water Tower of Africa’ due to being the source of many rivers in the region, participates under the theme of ‘drawing from the source of Africa’ West ‘, while emphasizing the sustainable development of the country and urban renewal focused on water.
“With 192 participating countries and 25 million visitors expected, Expo 2020 Dubai is a slice of the world, and for countries like Guinea, it offers a dynamic platform to showcase the country’s potential and attract foreign investment. It is also important that Guinea consider this participation to deepen its economic and cultural relations with the United Arab Emirates, host country of the Expo ”, declared Sériane Kénéma, Deputy Commissioner General of Guinea at Expo 2020.
She added that Guinea will seek innovation-driven partnerships in some of the financial services segments such as mobile banking and remittances, as well as e-commerce, mobility, health and agriculture. Guinea is one of the top five African countries with a mobile penetration of 65%.
This is the first time that Guinea has had its own pavilion in a World’s Fair although the country has participated regularly earlier in Hanover, Beijing, Astana and Milan. During the Expo, Guinea will also highlight the country’s National Economic and Social Development Plan based on the pillars of good governance, economic transformation, development of human capital and protection of natural resources.
This will help create a significant impact by communicating the country’s proposals to the world in a targeted manner. It will also help Guinea take advantage of Expo 2020 Dubai to boost its private sector by using the platform to showcase its business and tourism potential, and strengthen its economic, trade and cultural ties with other countries. The West African country plans to strengthen its private sector and attract investment in a multitude of key sectors.
In the sustainability district, the Guinea pavilion will focus on water management with the help of visitors. The pavilion reflects water, which is an essential part of the country’s history, culture and social norms. Visitors will cross the rivers inside the pavilion and during the visit they will be able to see Guinean historical figures, different regions, learn about people and culture.
The pavilion is the centerpiece of the country’s participation in the Expo, which will also include business-oriented programming and cultural performances, especially on the country’s national day of February 13, 2022.
