Women in Leadership Initiative Announces Fall 2021 Programming and New Steering Committee

After starting in the fall of 2018, the Women in Leadership (WiL) initiative, under the leadership of Michele Wheatly, Special Advisor to the Chancellor and President and Professor of Biology, is now entering its fourth year and has just concluded a strategic planning. . WiL also announces an expanded steering committee tasked with catalyzing the personal and collective advancement of women at Syracuse University.

This fall’s programming will kick off with an opportunity for faculty and staff to reconnect through collaborative “Design Think” brainstorming.

“WiL wanted to create a space where community concerns will focus on the recent experiences of women and non-binary faculty and staff, allowing them to process the emotional response to their experiences during the pandemic, to overcome overwhelming, if you want, ”said Blé. “We want to bring our community together in a way that validates their feelings and strengthens the interdependence of faculty and staff. WiL will use these learnings to inform programming that will leverage the skills developed over the past 18 months to propel women into leadership opportunities.

The WiL initiative seeks to develop strong leaders who can adapt quickly to change and adopt new skills to move teams and organizations forward. All members of the Syracuse University campus communities and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry are welcome to participate in these events. The initiative’s fall programming will again include two-part course offerings: an academic and an administrative part.

Community reset

Getting together: a collaborative “Design Think” brainstorming on women and teaching staff and not binary

Before proceeding with the administrative and academic programming, WiL felt it was important to bring together faculty and staff (virtually) who seek to recognize and validate the unifying experiences of women and non-binary faculty and staff during the pandemic. In small groups, participants will discuss the skills they have learned over the past 18 months and the WiL programming that will help them hone these skills for faster leadership.

You are invited to join Amy Bonomi, co-editor of “Women Leading Change in Academia: Breaking the Glass Ceiling, Cliff, and Slipper”, and Elisa Dekaney, Professor of Music Education and Associate Dean of Research, Graduate Studies and Internationalization, for a discussion of this book, a groundbreaking collection of perspectives from diverse female academic leaders. Participants will have the opportunity to come together in a virtual space to listen to Amy Bonomi’s professional and personal experiences, discuss the book in small groups and ask questions in a large group discussion. A more informal question-and-answer period will follow the guided discussion.

This seven-week series will offer participation in the Crucial Conversations skills-building program, which teaches the skills necessary to create alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue on high-stakes, emotional or risky topics at all levels of business. an organization. These are conversations around the quality of work, time management, productivity, performance, sensitive issues, conflict or a strained relationship, for example. By learning to speak and be heard (and by encouraging others to do the same), you will begin to emerge the best ideas, make the highest quality decisions, and then act on the decisions with unity and commitment. respectful manner.

Women Leaders X-Rising Stronger Together Virtual Convention
Sunday October 10-Monday October 11

Once again this year, WiL announces the sponsorship of 100 women from Syracuse University to attend the Women Leaders X — Rising Stronger Together virtual convention scheduled for October 10-11, 2021. The convention is the annual event of the Women organization. Leaders in College Sports, whose mission is to develop, connect and advance women working in college sport and beyond.

This year’s Women Leaders X Convention speakers include Erica Dhawan, author of “Digital Body Language”; Amy Morin, editor-in-chief of Verywell Mind; and Jill Sharp, Master Level Performance Coach.

The event schedule also includes panel sessions, live login sessions, and a chat with NCAA President Mark Emmert.

Registration also includes a one-year membership in Women Leaders in College Sports.
